What is MAT®

How Muscle Function Impacts Pain & Performance

From Greg Roskopf, founder of MAT®

Muscle Activation Techniques®

Tool to Assess Muscle Function

Our bodies have a unique way of compensating by restricting motion.  When our nervous system senses muscle weakness, it creates tightness in other or opposing muscles to restrict motion.

Restore and Correct Muscle Function

MAT® applies a process to improve and restore optimal muscle function.  By improving the bodies ability to contract, the nervous system decreases the amount of tension from opposing muscles so your body can move more efficiently.

Walking on Ice

When we walk on ice, our body tightens up and walks with shorter strides.  If we just tried to make the tight muscles loose, and went right back onto the ice, we would tighten back up.  That is where MAT® fits in, it looks for the cause of the muscle tightness.

Injury Prevention

By having more muscles working optimally, the body then has more ideal movement.  This leads to better joint mechanics and decreased stress to the joints and muscular system as a whole.  This also allows our body to better tolerate what we are asking it to do rather than continue to compensate which leads to pain and eventual injury.

Why am I Still Struggling to Find Pain Relief?

Many of the pains we start to develop can be attributed to poor muscle function.  As we train the body with MAT® and a personalized exercise program, we can begin to feel stronger and more flexible without pain or decreased pain.

Sports Performance

In order to perform at your best, and do it for the long haul, you need optimal muscle function.  When your muscles are working well together, your body does not get beat up as easily, allowing you to do the things you love better, and longer!
